Look & listen as my guest Phyllis Braxton shares the story of a simple PINK pen that tells a big tale.
Phyllis was supposed to be back at her home in Minneapolis for our time together, but got delayed in Maryland with her daughter & granddaughter (not a bad thing to get more kisses from her granddaughter:).
The object she planned to tell the story of was back home so as all entrepreneurs & especially Mom’s do… she improvised.
She has JUST received her first shipment of pink colored pens for her brand new 501C3 tax deductible non-profit Whole Soul Inc!
This pen tells the story of a dream that came to her during her college years. Now a dream come true.
As a young girl from a small town in Mississippi, she experienced people’s preconceived notions about what she would be able to do with her life based on where she came from…
Whole Soul Inc is on a mission to support women & girls who have been disadvantaged…. and wants every girl & every woman to know they have worth and are valuable in the world.

As you can see and/or hear Phyllis is a vision maker & she’s up to a LOT!
At 50 years old, she’s been a leader the DEI field for over 25 years and with her consulting company PINK (Pursuing Intercultural Needs & Knowledge) for 17+ years.
She has worked with individuals, teams & companies all over the world to help them better understand their differences. Phyllis believes that our differences don’t have to polarize us but can really bring us even closer together as a human family. By acknowledging those differences with a sense of value, worth & appreciation, it lifts us all up.
In 2016, Phyllis went back to school to become a licensed therapist. She became fascinated with the connection between mental wellness and differences. We didn’t grow up hearing the same messages about people who are different from us from the people who love and care about us.
She believes that we are all working towards common goals in the world, but we’ve been taught different things about each other. In her work she invites people to pause, to be open to listen to people’s stories and what matters to them. To listen for commonality in our very different values. For over two decades, Phyllis has created safe spaces for deep conversations to take place so people can make mistakes and learn.
Phyllis personally knows how challenging it is to create safe spaces for these tough conversations about diversity, equality & inclusion to take place so she is expanding her offerings to self-care for these brave change makers aka her fellow DEI trainers. She has faith that there are so many more people who want community than people who want division.
Phyllis stands for honoring & celebrating our differences. She exudes compassion and understanding. I’m grateful to have connected with her.

Lastly Phyllis just launched her first book Book: Be Right or Be Effective. I had the honor and pleasure of pre-reading it and here’s my review:
My favorite takeaways are:
1.) Embrace your unique quirks
2.) Open up to others’ gifts
3.) You are not a movement (see #2)
4.) Legacies are important
5.) The Platinum Rule is the bomb
6.) Relationships are what it’s all about (being right isn’t as rewarding as being effective) Give yourself the gift of digging into this insightful guide to creating the life you want.”
Thanks Phyllis for your kind words about my important legacy work in the world and how it inspires you think more deeply about the Things that matter in your life.
Now when Phyllis visits her family, she makes the time to ask your family members about the objects, the foods, the history, the legacy that surrounds them and you AND you record these stories for your own & your families legacy!!! Go Phyllis!
