Minisode 1: Christmas Ornaments & Family History featuring Matt Paxton

Listen how Matt Paxton talks about his passion for getting kids interested in stories. He often uses objects as what he calls story starters. He shares how he’s able to share memories of many of his family members who are no longer living with his own children through the stories of Christmas ornaments.

Every ornament represents someone in his life who has passed away. His wife and their seven children never met any of these important people. He takes the opportunity when he’s decorating the Christmas tree to share stories of all these loved ones so his present family keeps the memories of these loved ones alive through their lives. Having a Christmas tree reminds me that I have and am a part of a family. I love the ritual & tradition Matt has created for his family. It gives him and them an opportunity to share their history with one another. Here he talks about his father and a Willie Nelson ornament. He shares a love for Willie with his Dad.
